when walking in addis ababa (the main city), i noticed that every passerby would fist look at my feet then tilt up to my face. “shoes make the man” they say. which didn’t far well for me due to the fact that i was still wearing my rugged backpacking solomon shoes, still covered in mud and cow excrement.

with that said, i found myself taking a number of pictures of feet. mainly because i feel like they can tell such a story without much expression. cracks, cuts, shoeless, sandals, elephantitus and polio. they all tell such deep stories.

Todays image is of a beautiful little girl from the Merci Tribe. She and her two sisters & younger brother were waiting to cross the river, tuck on one side due to the recent rain and fast water.

last week i wanted to study some different fotog styles. it was a beautiful, pre-spring, saturday and i thought a few friends and i would go out and try my hand at some flair, quazi soft focus, “blown out” images. thanks to all my beautiful friends erica, chelsea bailey, @micheljohnson, and @parkerwelling

camera test :: light writing

after a long day of work, and a free night ahead, i stayed downtown for some camera tests. thought i would try out some light writing.

shot, colored, edited = 4 hrs

for the shots you will see in this test video my camera was set to take 25 second exposures at f22, iso 320. being that i was shooting alone, i would have lost my mind without my intervalometer. using the canon tc-80n3, i set the delay at 5 seconds, making a complete 30 second interval takes. then, using my iPhone stop watch, i kept track of the takes without having to return to the camera.

a friend sent me this clip the other day, why he was on this site i will never know, and it shocked me. anywho, this clip is a bit of genius. NOTE :: there isn’t any post production work or any other digital trickery here, the blades really are spinning at normal rate.

i can’t tell you enough how much of a genius austin mann is. god has gifted this guy with many talents that he refuses to bury. last week i had the privilege of spending an afternoon in austin’s studio taking shots for my new website. i am in the process of designing tkmckamy.com. it will be the location of my portfolio, reel, client list and this blog. one thing you can expect a is simple contemporary/modern design with some sweet shots from austin. that was two things… my bad. here are a few shots that wont make site.

side note :: austin’s site is an incredible photo portfolio. this site streams directly from his flickr account. sick. designed by austin and a written by a friend at soda-cola (chris mancini).

the following are raw photos straight out of the canon 5d mark ii with a ring flash. and to answer your question, no. blue steel is not ready for the public.

i hate the color but i love the camera

for the past two weeks i have been making a hit list for things needed to start my film career. here are my top two assassins.

#1 :: red one :: i hate the color red. from elementary school all the way to college my schools colors were always blue and our rivals were always red. to this day i still don’t own a red shirt (with the exception of an england kit a womens ENT member gave me). so, i hate the color. but i love this camera. “red” cameras are changing the industry by leaps and bounds. take a look a the graph below. the darkest shaded box is your standard 1080 hd resolution ratio. the “red one” trumps it by 2k!! while the epic edition is an absolute landslide.

lets not forget that this is all at 12 megapixel, which is unheard of in the video camera industry. this puppy can even capture 120 frames a second at 2k. now don’t start hating on my geeky side. as i have said before, on the inside, im black and im techie (but not of the trekkie persusasion).

#2 :: canon 5d mark ii :: this 21 megapixel sitll camera is the mecca of the photo world and going to majorly influence the video world starting now. it has the ability to capture 1920 x 1080 res and does amazing in low light. this hd short was filmed on the 5d by barlow elton using a steady tracker, a local mall, canons new 5d and his kidos.
