new site :: igoby.tk 25 January 2010

ladies and gentlemen, FINALY, I am proud to say my portfolio site is complete. after 4 months and 4 different designs i finally came to one i liked. i then hired amber weinberg, a very talented coder who specializes in XHTML, CSS, and wordpress, to make it a reality.

i like interwebs

i built the design in photoshop and turned it over to amber for the hard work. its WP powered with heavy light box module features (thanks again to amber!). the backgrounds are all frames pulled from my films and your scenery can be changed using the next arrow on the bottom right.

some of you might have caught that there isn’t a “.com” at the end of my url… since day one, i have gone by the initials “TK”. which stands for Thomas Knox. and as of last year .tk domains became available for sale within the US. .tk stands for TiKi net. a coded birthed out of New Zealand in ’97. after getting sick of lame name based urls… (like “tkmckamy.com”) i thought something a bit more creative would be fitting. thus, i go by dot tk.

a cool about page concept is coming soon!

my very first video :: year 2001 10 January 2010

with some encouragement from my wife i recently unearthed some of my early productions. this laughable sport short was my very first production as a “director” and editor at 17 y/o.  yes, i do look very pre-pubescent. yes, i did think i was black & yes, i did get multiple offers to make the jump straight to the NBA… (two truths and a lie. maybe)

2nd & Commerce 14 December 2009

the video ::

100% real free-stylings. live recorded. true joy. authentic street hip-hop.

the story ::

a few months ago i was in downtown nashville shooting some b-roll for a project when i heard a faint beat coming from a few blocks away. drawn to the beat like moth to a flame i came across a crowd of tourist, clubers, honky tonkers and homeless all gathering around Kyhil and his band “2nd & Commerce”. with a key board, amp and a mic these guys had every passerby in the palm of their hand. With a lightning quick tongue and whit, freestyle lyrics filled the street corner with joy and excitement. rapping about the audience including anything from outfits to attitudes, lifestyles to love life. all while keeping it PG 13 to boot!  their tip bucket was filling for a reason, these guys were different, you could feel the passion in the air and see the joy in their eyes.

i was blown away. in fact, i couldn’t stop thinking about how cool it would be to shoot these guys a free music video. one they could use to sell on the street along side their cd, use for online marketing and, most importantly, i wanted to do something for them that could enrich their lives. upon that dream i recalled

branding :: TSofL 20 November 2009

in my recent downtime (aka time i should be sleeping) i did some mock ups for my brother in law’s new pro shop. I am very proud to say that he and my sister are taking a leap of faith and opening “the tennis store of lexington” (kentucky). franchise coming soon!

being that i needed the branding to connect with older generations i used inspiration from the logo they love the most. the USTA crest. here is one version of my design. 100% custom and template free. oh, and like always, it was “due yesterday”.

aprox total design time :: 4 hours.

aprox self approval :: 6.5 out of 10 (branding isn’t something to be rushed people)

tsl8cropped 92% of my blog readers are “creatives” (the other 8% is my mum =), so what do you guys think?  really, i want to hear what you really think. what first impression does it give you?
